Islamic English – Not Just a Matter of Spelling


Have you ever used these words or phrases in written communication?

ALAYHIS SALAM

AMEEN-

ASSALAMU ALAYKUM

ZIKR

ASTAGFURALLAH

AUDHU BILLAHI MIN ASH SHAYTAN AR RAJIM



Would you have chosen the exact same spelling? Perhaps not. Does spelling matter?


Just like any other group in history, Muslims are diverse. That is one of Allah’s blessings. However, we often allow that diversity to block our progress.

With regard to language, Soundvision has published an interesting article which acts as
"A Simple Guide for Common Arabic Usage in the English Language"
I think it's worth consideration for various reasons. In the context of giving/receiving dawah, educating Muslims themselves and our general unity, I think this article is quite relevant.

Oprah en route to “Israel” – a follow up note


As a follow up, I wrote to Alison Weir to see whether her organisation had contacted Oprah. Ms. Weir replied that

If Americans Only Knew is sending her a cover note and their DVD with "The Easiest Targets" and our other videos on it http://www.ifamericansknew.org/about_us/videos.html
She further stated that they planned to “make a follow-up call to ask if she's watched it, and to urge her to visit Palestinians to express solidarity with their suffering as well (which, she would then see is vastly greater than Israelis'). “
